IoT Lab

On September 14th, the IoT lab at the MPSTME in collaboration with the Sobus Center of Excellence, NMIMS Shirpur, was inaugurated with significant success. This event marked a pivotal moment for the Avinya Club, a group dedicated to innovation in automation, robotics, and mechatronics, with a strong focus on practical learning and project implementation.

The inauguration was honoured by the presence of several distinguished guests:

  • Dr. Sunita Patil, Director, SVKM’s NMIMS Shirpur Campus.
  • Dr. Suseelendra Desai, Dean, SVKM’s NMIMS Shirpur Campus.
  • Dr. Venkatadri M, Associate Dean, SVKM’s NMIMS Shirpur Campus.
  • Mr. Chetan Patil, Manager, Sobus Center of Excellence.
  • Dr. Ritesh Dhanare, Head of IT Department, SVKM’s NMIMS Shirpur Campus.
  • Dr. Nitin Choubey, Head of CS Department, SVKM’s NMIMS Shirpur Campus.
  • Dr. Suresh Kurumbanshi, Club Incharge.
  • Prof. Praveenkumar Loharkar, Assistant Professor, Department of AIML.

The event also saw the participation of numerous faculty members from various departments, further underscoring its significance. At 11:00 AM, the ceremonial ribbon-cutting marked the official opening of the Avinya Club lab. Following this, the event host delivered a comprehensive overview of the Avinya Club, detailing its mission, objectives, and ongoing projects. The club is committed to advancing the fields of automation, robotics, and mechatronics through hands-on project work.

Subsequent to the inaugural speech, the guests were shown a series of prototypes developed by Avinya Club members. These included:

  1. Visitor Counter Prototype: This device detects and records the number of individuals entering or exiting a specific area. Faculty and guests discussed its implementation costs and development timeline, providing feedback on potential use cases and efficiency improvements.
  2. Gesture Identification System: Presented by Harshal Sonawane and his team, this system identifies harmful gestures during emergencies or conflicts and alerts authorities. Suggestions included integrating neural controls to enhance functionality and involving junior students in understanding the underlying technology. Considerations for cost and security were also highlighted.
  3. Home Automation System: This prototype allows control of electrical devices such as lights and fans via a mobile app, simplifying appliance management, especially in the absence of human intervention. Guests praised its practical applications and Dr. Sunita Patil, Director of the campus & Dr. Venkatadri M, Associate Dean recommended its implementation in classrooms, stressing the importance of estimating deployment time on campus.
  4. AI-Based Group Violence Detection System: This software prototype uses AI to recognize objects like hockey sticks or guns and detect suspicious behaviour. It was a highlight of the event, with positive feedback regarding its potential for enhancing campus security. Guests encouraged further development focused on cost-effectiveness, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • The event concluded with a discussion where guests provided valuable suggestions and positive feedback on the prototypes. They encouraged the Avinya Club members to continue their development efforts and explore campus-wide implementations. Dr. Sunita Patil, Dr. Suseelendra Desai, and Dr. Venkatadri M appreciated the efforts of students for their innovation and hard work. The ceremony ended with a group photograph and vote of thanks to the management, authorities of the campus, Dr. Sunita Patil, Director of the campus, Mrs. Resha Patel Madam, Director(Operation), Sobus, Dr. Venkatadri M, Associate Dean, SVKM’s NMIMS Shirpur Campus & Mr. Rahul Dande, Chief Accountant & Administrator for providing support to establish this lab.
