TRAINING WORKSHOP ON FIRST AID & DISASTER MANAGEMENT CONDUCTED ON 25TH MARCH 2017

A work shop cum training program on ‘First Aid & Disaster Management’ was held at Mukesh Patel Technology Park [MPTP], Shirpur Campus on 25th March, 2017 in association with Indian Red Cross Society [IRCS], Dhule branch. Workshop was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Dr. Ram Gaud [Director, Mukesh Patel Technology Park, Shirpur Campus], Dr. Aaquil Bunglowala [Associate Dean, MPSTME Shirpur Campus], Dr. Ashwini Deshpande [Associate Dean, SPTM Shirpur Campus], Mr. Rajeev Dalal [Deputy Registrar, SVKM’s NMIMS, Shirpur Campus], followed by felicitation of members of IRCS. A team of Mr. Ashok Patil, Mr. Rangrao Patil, Mr. Motilal Patil, Ms. Neeta Patil from IRCS, Dhule branch had guided about disaster act 2005, different types of disasters, and importance of first aid in various emergencies of life.

Mr. Ashok Patil [Program Chairman, IRCS, Dhule branch], had appreciated the initiative taken by NMIMS university and MPTP authorities. He quoted that, MPTP is the first institute in North Maharashtra Region conducting such type of activity. He appreciated the efforts and pain taken by Director MPTP to make this event possible, and he specially mentioned and praised the enthusiasm and support provided by the institute.

This workshop was conducted in two sessions. Morning session was attended by students of B. Tech 4th Year EXTC, IT of MPSTME Shirpur along with D. Pharm 2nd year, B. Pharm 3rd year students of SPTM Shirpur, similarly B. Tech 4th year students of Computer, Mechanical, Civil Engineering attended afternoon session enthusiastically.

Workshop started with an introduction about International Red Cross Society. Its aim, vision, mission, purpose, programs and activities carried out were explained by Mr. Ashok Patil. Morning and afternoon sessions were of 04 hours each, and sessions were divided in theory and practical phases. These session were focused on various aspects of disaster, Disaster Management Act, 2005, understanding of disaster management act for citizens of India, its awareness and importance, types of disasters [man made & natural], post disaster precaution and activities, importance of first aid, elements of first aid, use of first aid and benefits of carrying first kit during the travel, availability of first aid kit at home/workplace was also explained.

Practical sessions were about - Do & Don’ts during and after the disaster, demonstration of different rescue tools, use of these tools in different types of disasters [like flood, fire, forest fire, land slide, accident etc.], were demonstrated with the help of student volunteers. A group of students trained for such emergency situation. Precautions to be taken in helping victims, procedures to be followed after the arrival of medical team, transportation of victim to nearby medical facility and safe areas, were explained and demonstrated with the help of presentation. Essential contents of a first aid kit, effective use of kit to reduce medical complications in different disaster situations were demonstrated.

Workshop was coordinated by Prof. Rehan Ahmad [Assistant Professor, Dept. of EXTC], Prof. Ketan Hatware [Assistant Professor, SPTM].

Workshop was concluded by vote of thanks by Ms. Purva Utekar [co-ordinator, TPO department].
